The term global warming was probably first used in its modern sense on 8
August 1975 in a science paper by Wally
Broecker in the journal Science called "Are we on the brink of a
pronounced global warming?" Broecker's choice of words was new and
represented a significant recognition that the climate was warming, previously
the phrasing used by scientists was "inadvertent climate
modification," because while it was recognized humans could change the
climate, no one was sure which direction it was going. The National Academy of
Sciences first used global warming
in a 1979 paper called the Charney Report, which said "if carbon dioxide
continues to increase, we find no reason to doubt that climate changes will
result and no reason to believe that these changes will be negligible."The
report made a distinction between referring to surface temperature changes as global warming, while referring to
other changes caused by increased CO2 as climate change.
Global
warming became more widely popular after
1988 when NASA climate scientist James
Hansen used the term in a testimony to
Congress. He said "global warming has reached a level such that we can
ascribe with a high degree of confidence a cause and effect relationship
between the greenhouse effect and the observed warming." His testimony was
widely reported and afterward global
warming was commonly used by the press and in public discourse
Global warming is the rise in the average temperature of
Earth's atmosphere and oceans since the late 19th century and its projected
continuation. Since the early 20th century, Earth's mean surface temperature
has increased by about 0.8 °C (1.4 °F), with about two-thirds of the
increase occurring since 1980.
Global Warming is caused by many
things. The causes are split up into two groups, human or anthropogenic causes,
and natural causes. The causes of global warming by nature are explosions on
the sun ("sun spots"), volcanic eruptions on a massive scale, changes
in earth orbit, changes in earth's orientation toward the sun, explosions
caused by large meteors hitting the earth
In other side, the cause of global warming by human causes are pollution, whether it is vehicular, electrical
or industrial is the main contributor to the global warming. And then deforestation,
it is the cutting down of trees and plants to make way for any development
activity. Next landfills, landfills
are those big chunks of garbage that you must have seen on some expressway,
when you go out of your city, that stink. Last is population of human, because the increase in population makes the
problem worse because we breathe out carbon dioxide.
Global warming can cause many effect
that impact to human, like flood, it caused by human waste because human throw
the garbage in the river. Next,
unstable climate,
scientists predict that during global warming, the northern regions of the
Northern Hemisphere (Northern Hemisphere) will heat up more than other areas on
Earth. As a result, mountains of ice will melt and the land will shrink. Then Sea
level rise, when the
atmosphere warms,
the surface layer
of the
oceans will
warm, so
the volume will expand
and raise sea
levels.
The way to reduce global warming are
using energy more wisely. The simple action we can take to help reduce it are
we take a part to reduce waste by choosing reusable product insetead of
dispossible buying product with minimal packaging. Beside that case we must
leave the heat and air conditioning or controlling the low temperatures all the
times. Use compact fluorescent light at your house. Goto the short distance by
walking or cycling for our healthy body. In the long distance drive your car
efficiently. Choos the household appliencesin energy efficient models. Soon
turn off the light if you leave a room and off TV and others audio sets when we
are not using them also off the water tap, ifwe don’t use it. Do the good hobby
like to plant a tree. A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon
dioxide during it’s life time. Share information about recycling and energy
conservation with your friends and others to establish program and policies
that good for the environment.
